Photography Rediscovered

I rediscovered the joy of photography in 2012 when I started to create images with quotes. Since I manage several blogs and Facebook pages, and they all need word pictures, I was quickly running out of photographs. When I say rediscovered, I mean I used to be engulfed in photography in my middle teens. At that time I had a darkroom and spent hours developing photos under that dim orange-tinted light

Since then, the internet has come along.  There are numerous sites photographers can post photos to sell. I have photos on a handful of locations, but most housed on PublicDomainPictures.net – where I have nearly 12,000 images and adding more almost daily. I’ve been a contributor and frequent contest winner on Public Domain Pictures since 2014.

The Arizona Desert

A favorite genre of my photo collection seems to be those of the desert. My love of the desert began when I was a young girl. In the late 1960’s and the 70’s, I traveled with my mom by train from Los Angeles to Wisconsin to visit her family. The train passed through the northwest. The red, expansive rock landscapes fascinated me.

My trips to Mesa, Arizona began in the 1980’s, when the Wisconsin relatives had retired and escaped to Arizona during winter. At least twice a year we would drive 9 hours down Highway 10 to Arizona. Thanksgiving was a given; perhaps Christmas or early spring for a second visit. The relatives usually packed up to return to Wisconsin by March. They disliked the desert heat as much as the Wisconsin cold.

The Mesa trips spanned about a ten year period – 1983-1994. The elders got too old to drive the distance and stopped coming to Arizona. Most have since passed. Fortunately, good friends have retired and moved to Arizona. So now I visit them. One resides in Sedona; the other at the foot of Superstition Mountains in Apache Junction.  Once again, I’ll be taking that 9 hour trip down highway 10 to visit my beloved Arizona desert at least annually.

So, in summary. I love, love, love the Arizona desert. It is a photographer’s paradise. I love my Arizona desert pictures and, lucky me, others do too.
