Gerry Reiche – People I Admire

We all have people who, during the course of our life, set us on a new path. One of the individuals who dramatically shifted my life is Gerry Reiche. His wisdom can impact your path, too.

The meeting in 2006

I met Gerry Reiche by happenstance.

A musician friend of mine invited me to come to hear her perform during a service at a Spiritual Center. I gladly accepted the invitation. When I stepped into that sanctuary on a Sunday in April 2006, I knew I had walked into a new phase of my life. It felt like home.

As “luck” would have it, there was another acquaintance in attendance who was aware of my speaking ability. She recommended me to the church board as a guest speaker. Little did I know the Spiritual Community had been without a minister for quite some time.  After I delivered my first ‘sermon,’ I was approached and asked if I’d consider serving as their Spiritual Director. That person was Gerry Reiche.

Although I had earned my ministerial credentials in that religion (Science of Mind) years earlier, refresher courses were required by the mother church. In the meantime, I acquired a general ministerial license so I could accept their invitation. I shared the role of Spiritual Director with another talented minister for six months. It was a remarkable, life-changing experience.
Gerry brought be back into the valuable, loving fold of a Spiritual Community.

Gerry as an Author

For 18 months beginning January 2011, I hosted my own internet radio show. I was called “Ready My Lips Tips for Success.” The focus of the show was overcoming adversity. I invited Gerry to be a guest on my show. At that time it was to talk about his book and workshops titled, Finding Your Path to Happiness. Since then he has rewritten his book and it is now titled, “It’s All About Me – An Interactive Guide to a Happier, More Fulfilling and Successful Life. Says Gerry of his book:

Life’s questions have answers, and I know there is a method for discovering both. As an Author, Practitioner, and student I have learned to listen and to know myself. I have discovered that the method for finding answers to life’s questions is not in some far distant and mysterious land but within my own being. This book is a compilation of my life’s discoveries, molded into a method where the reader can realize that it really is all about the “me” who chooses to walk the path of passion, purpose, and success.

I admire Gerry because he is a person who walks his talk. Since 2006, I have watched him seek and explore various outlets of self-discovery and expression. His profession is as a lawyer.  But his passions? Let me quote:

I would say that I have many passions. Speaking, writing, music are the big three. But what they all have in common is an awakening of joy and inspiration in others. THAT is priceless. So although I can go within and know my truth, it is spreading the light and helping others that is my true happiness.

Of course, being married to his soulmate, Kathy, is probably the beginning of Gerry discovering his true joy.

Gerry as a Musician

Gerry has a beautiful singing voice. I have heard him, even videotaped him, perform at church services through the years. Most recently Gerry has become a part of a music ensemble called Kirtankara. The music performed is Kirtan  – a sacred call-&-response chanting initially performed in India’s Bhakti community. It began centuries ago as devotional worship and was known as the layman’s way to connect with the Divine. The Sanskrit chants are ancient traditions considered to contain transformative power and healing energy. I attended one of the workshops and found the music and experience soothing and uplifting. The performance was videotaped. You can see and hear it here.

It’s All About Me

This entire article was inspired by a recent post Gerry wrote on his Facebook timeline. I love it because of the wisdom, and the truth, which Gerry teaches and demonstrates in his approach to life:

This may seem a bit self-centered at first blush but looking deeper one comes to the conclusion that life is really “all about me” meaning the one who is living it. We all have baggage that is created from a lifetime of beliefs: beliefs about what we can and cannot do, what others tell us we can and cannot do, our self-concern for what others may think, the decisions we have made based on those impressions and opinions. It is no wonder that we wander aimlessly through life. We end up living in fear rather than from knowing how uniquely wonderful we are and that our uniqueness is by design.

If we were to listen to ourselves and look at the habits we have developed because of our thinking that others know more about our purpose than our own inner soul…well, let’s just say that the psychiatric industry might be a little less busy.

Life is all about the one living it. The sooner we understand that we are worthy of joy; the sooner we understand that we are each unique expressions of that from which we are created, the sooner we will each achieve our purpose for being. Live with an understanding of who you are. Understand that you are marvelously capable, loved, perfect, whole and complete exactly as you are.
