A Delightful Distraction – Disney’s Rollickin’ Roadsters

In May 2018 I discovered a new delightful distraction – Disney’s Rollickin’ Roadsters car ride.

Disney Rollickin' Roadsters

The Ride

The ride is located in the Cars Land themed area of Disney California Adventure –  inspired by the Disney·Pixar franchise, Cars.

Quoting from an article:

The story behind the Rollicking’ Roadsters is that Luigi, the Italian tire salesman from the Cars movies, is hosting a reunion of his cousins from Italy in Radiator Springs. You show up just in time to help them out with a traditional Italian dance. Basically, it’s an excuse to put a bunch of cute Cars in a pen and have them circle around each other like they’re doing an intricate wedding dance.

I believe the ride has only been open a couple of years.

The appeal

As young seniors in our mid-sixties, my friend and business partner Circe Denyer and I avoid high-speed thriller rides.  Our sense of balance and stomachs cannot handle them.

When our eyes landed on the darling Roadsters cars – we couldn’t resist.  TThe Rollickin’s Roadsters is the first ride in the US to use the trackless ride system introduced in 2000 at Tokyo Disneyland. While the ride looks gentle, it isn’t. Without visible tracks, there is no way to know which way the car is going to move.  And when it does!  SURPRISE! We nearly wet our pants laughing while we got tossed around.

Each car has its own individual look – but all absolutely darling.  Combined with the choreographed dance and music –   it all adds up to one hell of a wonderful, delightful distraction
